The Newfoundland Club
Recognising the achievements of Newfoundlands in Working Tests
Manager: Alan Godden
The Newfoundland Club Water Tests, held at Grangewaters on the weekend of 5th + 6th September 2026
Test Manager’s Report
The last of three Water Tests hosted at Grangewaters this year, and the final Breed Club Water test of the 2026
season .....with an excellent number of entries.
With 35 entries to test on the Saturday, and 23 to test on the Sunday, it would have been helpful to have access to our 2nd swim, but unfortunately the Activity Centre were also running events both days….. in some respects that has to be applauded as it bodes well for the future of the Activity Centre if Thurrock are able to secure additional private funding from such events.
At section E – we had 5 entries – just the 1 pass on this occasion.
At section D – we had 13 entries, but no passes.
At section C – we had 11 entries, and 6 passes.
At section B – we had 10 entries, with 4 passes
And at section A – we had 19 entries, with 15 passes.
Whilst it would have been great to see some D passes, what strikes me is that a number of dogs are now competing at that level, but without being able to progress to level E just yet are entering C, which is borne out by a higher number of C passes than might normally be expected….Hopefully next season we shall see some of the D dogs progressing onto level E….
We welcomed guests from NewForest, Terranova, WNAG, Midlands, SEWN, and from The Working Newfoundland Club, several of whom enjoyed the comfort of our Luxury Lakeside Lodges for the weekend, they were all put to good use with plenty of stewarding duties. Many thanks for all of your help.
Unfortunately one of the appointed judges did not arrive, but fortunately we were able to find a substitute Judge on the day.
Conditions across the weekend were excellent, warm, dry, and with little breeze.
To our Judges, the stewards, and our “strangers” , our entrants, and those guests who came along to observe, thank-you for your support over the weekend, and we hope to see you all again before long.
