The Newfoundland Club

Recognising the achievements of Newfoundlands in Working Tests

Manager: Ann Thornton

This swimming season has been very busy with water tests earlier in the year, leading to not much time to actually train for tests. So when advertising these tests we were met with apologies, as owners needed time to train for elements their dogs have been struggling with, before visiting Bryn for our next tests in August. Due, to the low entries, we had very few stewards, so thank you to those who did pitch in (even when it wasn’t necessarily voluntary!) and kept the weekend running smoothly.
The weather in Bryn is never predicable (we often say it has its own special climate), I was worried leading up to the weekend as the weather was very hot and humid, but luckily the heat broke over night on Friday evening/ Saturday morning. But to keep us on our toes, the Bryn weather gods gave us overcast skies, strong winds and the occasional bout of heavy rain on both Saturday and Sunday.
With a prompt start and only 9 entries to test on the Saturday in the 3 levels, the day flew by. With one or two of our entries being inexperienced with boats, it was lovely to have the opportunity to play around in the water in the afternoon and get some practice in. On Sunday with only 7 entries we finished even earlier and had a nice relaxing afternoon catching up with those who had traveled to join us.
At Section A - we had 5 entries, all dogs did fantastically and passed.
At Section B - we had two passes out of the severn entered. Congratulations to those who passed, and with a little more work on either the underwater retrieve or controlled swim those who did not quite make it this time should surely pass in the future.
At Section C - we had one pass from the 3 entries. Well done to the team who passed, the others were very close to passing only running out of time in the elements.
At Section D - we did not have any dogs entered.
At Section E - unfortunately our entrant struggled getting out of the boat on the final element so sadly failed on this occasion, but 14th times the charm!
To our Judges, the stewards, and our entrants, thank-you for your help and support over the weekend it is very much appreciated; and we hope to see you all again next year!

There were seven entries at this level today, with two passes. The sticking point seemed to be either the underwater retrieve or the controlled swim. With practice, everyone is capable of passing this level.
Thank you to the stewards, the test manager, the WNAG and the NC for making this weekend possible.
